Q: Can you introduce yourself and provide some background on your role within SAM? What are your primary responsibilities and areas of expertise?
A: My name is Dave Deems, and I’m the Senior Business Development Manager at SAM. My role focuses on working with potential clients, getting to know them and their properties, sharing how SAM operates, and determining if we’re a strong fit for one another. If we are, I help write projections, execute agreements, and collaborate with our transition team to successfully bring new properties into our managed portfolio.
Q: What attracted you to this role and our company?
A: I joined SAM about 11 years ago after seeing a posting on Indeed. As I researched the storage industry, I realized what a great opportunity it was. When I met SAM’s CEO, Alyssa, I knew it was the right fit. The role aligned perfectly with my sales background and operational experience, and I’ve loved it ever since.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at SAM? Is there a specific aspect of your job or the company culture that you find particularly rewarding?
A: What I enjoy most is seeing the potential for growth within our team. Over the years, I’ve watched property managers I’ve worked with advance into district manager roles, and I’ve seen new positions created to support our expanding operations. Witnessing that kind of personal and professional growth across the team is incredibly rewarding.
Q: Has a memorable life lesson or advice shaped your outlook or approach to life and work?
A: One that’s guided me throughout my career and personal life is: Believe in yourself and the people around you. When you surround yourself with good people and work together, you can accomplish anything.
Q: Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
A: Living in Florida, I love spending time on the water boating, fishing, or just enjoying the beach. I also enjoy visiting theme parks with family and friends.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself?
A: I served in the fire service starting as a volunteer firefighter and worked my way up to Captain. After several years I became board certified and served a role in a professional department. I was a member of a regional dive team, swift water rescue, and a task force member.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
A: I have a service dog named Rip, inspired by Yellowstone! He’s a Golden Retriever with several professional certifications that put him in the top 10% of all trained dogs. We train every single day. He’s 17 months old and, despite his impressive training, he’s still the biggest knucklehead you’ll ever meet. Basically, just does whatever he wants.
