Q: Can you introduce yourself and provide some background on your role within SAM? What are your primary responsibilities and areas of expertise?
A: My name is Kelsey Walton, and I’m a District Manager overseeing the North Texas, South Utah, and Arizona markets. I’ve been with SAM for what will be 8 years in April 2026, and during that time, I’ve had the opportunity to grow through several roles since starting as a Store Manager when SAM had around 100 stores. Today, my main focus is supporting my team and ensuring both their success and the company’s. My area of expertise is in new development and lease-up facilities. So far, I’ve successfully opened and managed five new developments and currently have two more on the way.
Q: What attracted you to this role and our company?
A: I first joined SAM when my previous store was sold and transitioned under SAM’s management. At the time, Storage Sense Plano became the first SAM-managed property in Texas, which was exciting to be part of.
What initially attracted me to SAM was the growth opportunity within a company that was clearly expanding and evolving. As I advanced into my current role, what kept me motivated was the chance to mentor and develop others while helping store managers grow their careers within SAM, just like I did.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at SAM? Is there a specific aspect of your job or the company culture that you find particularly rewarding?
A: What I enjoy most about working at SAM is the collaborative culture and the opportunity for growth that comes with being part of a company that’s always moving forward.
The most rewarding part for me is seeing managers I’ve mentored grow and advance in their own careers. Watching their hard work pay off is one of the best parts of what I do.
Q: Has a memorable life lesson or advice shaped your outlook or approach to life and work?
A: One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of work-life balance. Taking care of your mental health and setting clear boundaries between work and home life is essential. Without balance, burnout comes quickly, so I’ve learned to be intentional about both my time and my energy.
Q: Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
A: In my free time, I love spending time with my family, especially my nephew, Reagan. We’re a close-knit family, and we make it a priority to do things together whenever we can.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself?
A: I’m an avid disc golf fan. My family and I play often, and I also love watching the professional tournaments each year. I may not be the best player on the course, but I enjoy the challenge, the hike, and the fun that comes with it.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
A: I’m a major foodie who loves to cook and explore new cuisines. My dream is to travel the world and experience different cultures through their food. Trying new dishes everywhere I go is definitely on my bucket list.
