Q: How long have you been working for SAM?
A: I have been working with SAM for five years. I will celebrate six years in September.
Q: How did you come to be part of the team at SAM? What attracted you to this role and our company?
A: In 2020 I applied for a store manger position. I wanted to work for a company that saw me as a person, not just a number. COVID really changed my perspective. I had always been the type who worked 70–80 hour weeks. I knew I needed better work–life balance, and this position allows me to have both: a meaningful career with a company that values its people and the ability to maintain a healthier balance in my life.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at SAM? Is there a specific aspect of your job or the company culture that you find particularly rewarding?
A: I enjoy working with new people and take pride in training both new and seasoned employees. I also appreciate the freedom of not being confined to an office all day. I truly enjoy being out on my property, engaging with tenants, and working closely with my district manager to support the needs of our district. I appreciate that SAM provides a positive work environment where continuous learning and growth are part of the culture. I value the ability to collaborate with my team, whether it’s for support or when working through challenging projects. SAM fosters a strong sense of purpose, and that motivates me to bring my best every day.
Q: Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
A: Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors. Fishing is one of my favorite activities, and I also love camping up north in Michigan. I’m passionate about plants, insects, and mushroom hunting, especially searching for morels. In my free time, I also enjoy reading, painting, and drawing.
Q: Is there a memorable life lesson or piece of advice that has shaped your outlook or approach to life and work?
A: I’ve learned many memorable life lessons over the years. The first is a quote from my father: nobody owes you anything—a reminder to work hard and take responsibility for my own success. The second is to always treat others the way you wish to be treated. And third, to wake up each day with optimism, knowing it’s a new opportunity and good things are ahead. I bring that same mindset to my work by approaching my property each day with a fresh set of eyes, asking myself: If I were the customer, what would I see?
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself?
A: I have a deep appreciation for all living things. I’m naturally curious and love understanding how everything works. When I want to learn something new or begin a new endeavor, I believe there is no such thing as too much research—gaining knowledge is something I genuinely enjoy.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
A: I have a wonderful, blended family that is always there to support one another. We have four kids and currently share our home with four dogs, nine cats, and a tank full of fish. All but one of our children are grown and out of the house, beginning their own adult lives. We still get together often—family time is my favorite, whether we’re hunting, fishing, or simply spending time together.
