Q: Can you introduce yourself and provide some background on your role within SAM? What are your primary responsibilities and areas of expertise?
A: My name is Sue Khan, and I’m a Financial Reporting Analyst on SAM’s Business Intelligence team. This July will mark my three-year anniversary with the company. In my role, I focus on analyzing financial and operational data, leveraging various systems and tools to generate insights and reporting. I collaborate closely with multiple departments—particularly Marketing and the Call Center—on cross-functional initiatives. A key part of my work involves automating reports and building Tableau dashboards that help teams make more informed, data-driven decisions.
Q: What attracted you to this role and our company?
A: SAM is my first corporate role after graduating in May 2023 with a degree in Statistics. I was actively seeking analytical roles where I could apply my background in data analysis, and I came across SAM’s opportunity. I saw that the corporate office was in my hometown which was what initially caught my attention, but after going through the interview process, I knew it was the right fit. I’ve always enjoyed working with data and finding creative ways to turn complex metrics into actionable insights. While there was definitely a learning curve at the start—especially with new systems and finance concepts—my team was incredibly supportive and played a big role in helping me grow and feel welcomed.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at SAM? Is there a specific aspect of your job or the company culture that you find particularly rewarding?
A: One of the things I appreciate most about working at SAM is the people. My team is made up of genuinely supportive and collaborative individuals who are always willing to help. I also value the flexibility in my role, which allows for a strong work-life balance. Additionally, my managers consistently encourage growth and challenge us to reach our full potential, which makes the work both rewarding and motivating.
Q: Has a memorable life lesson or advice shaped your outlook or approach to life and work?
A: One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to embrace challenges rather than shy away from them. Throughout my role, I’ve encountered projects that pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but each experience has helped me grow. By staying curious, taking the time to learn, and leaning on the support of my team and mentors, I’ve been able to overcome obstacles and build confidence in my abilities.
Q: Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
A: I’m an avid reader and spend a lot of my free time with a book—I even have a mini library at home. I also enjoy creative hobbies like crocheting, painting, gardening, and digital journaling, which are great ways for me to unwind.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself?
A: I’m a big soccer fan! My dad and I watch a lot of La Liga games together, and I’m a huge FC Barcelona fan. A few years ago, my dad, sister, and I had the opportunity to attend a Barcelona vs. Real Madrid match at MetLife Stadium, which was an unforgettable experience. I’m also hoping to attend the World Cup this year!
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
A: I really value spending time with family and friends. I’m the youngest of three siblings, and I have a large extended family—several of my cousins are close in age to me, so we grew up more like best friends. Growing up, I moved quite a bit and lived in several different homes, which gave me the opportunity to experience new places and perspectives. I also spent some time living in Florida, where there was even an alligator in the lake behind our house—definitely a unique experience! Aside from my unofficial “pet alligator,” I grew up with several pet birds, including parakeets, doves, and conures, and they’ve always been my favorite animal.
