Q: Can you introduce yourself and provide some background on your role within SAM? What are your primary responsibilities and areas of expertise?
A: My name is John Edwards and I am a Training Specialist here at SAM. My primary duties are guiding our newly hired store managers through the Store Management Academy, as well as maintenance and safety training for our field employees.
Q: What attracted you to this role and our company?
A: I joined SAM in 2023 when I was looking for a fresh start in a new career after my previous employer was bought out. I already had residential property management experience, so self storage seemed like the perfect fit. It was familiar enough yet still a new challenge to tackle.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at SAM? Is there a specific aspect of your job or the company culture that you find particularly rewarding?
A: Hands down, it’s the people I get to work with every day. (Shoutout to the Training Team!) We have such an incredibly kind, smart, and fun group of individuals who show up and show out each and every day to form the best team here at SAM!
Q: Has a memorable life lesson or advice shaped your outlook or approach to life and work?
A: “You never know what someone else is going through.” So, in a world full of choices, choose to be kind, always!
Q: Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
A: I am a self-described tech and sports nerd!
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself?
A: I coached youth basketball for two seasons and plan to go back again!
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
A: I have two sons who also love sports – Marcus (11) and Derrick (13)!
