SAM Team Member Spotlight: Lisa Whitton

Meet Our Team: Lisa Whitton

Store Manager of Storage Sense – Alexandria

Lisa Whitton

Q:  How long have you been working for SAM?

A:  3 years

Q:  How did you come to be part of the team at SAM? What attracted you to this role and our company?

A:  I have been at my present position for approximately 27 years, the company was originally Extra Space (not the chain). I love the structure of the company.

Q:  What do you enjoy most about working at SAM? Is there a specific aspect of your job or the company culture that you find particularly rewarding?

A:  I love it all. I love that we are a tight knit family, there are so many resources, and I can continue to grow. I enjoy helping people and being personable with each one depending on their needs and letting them know that this isn’t just a “job” to me, I really want to help them.

Q: Is there a memorable life lesson or piece of advice that has shaped your outlook or approach to life and work?

A:  The advice I would give, which may sound mean, is if you do not care or like people, then find something else more suited to yourself. Treat people with respect. It doesn’t matter if they are a judge or janitor, they are equally as important.

Q:  Outside of work, what are some of your hobbies or interests that you enjoy pursuing in your free time?

A:  Outside of work, I love taking my dog for a walk. We live in the country and I love the peace and tranquility of nature. I love my family and I am pretty much a homebody; I love to relax by watching tv and playing games on my phone.

Q:  Can you share a fun fact about yourself?

A:  I was born in England and lived in Chipping Norton until I was 21. I am very energetic, which is a great asset, and I will keep on keeping on until I relax in the evening. I am a terrible cook, which I don’t care as I will eat anything – peanut butter sandwiches, it doesn’t matter!

Q:  Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?

A:  I am passionate about any animals and creatures; I believe they should be treated with care and respect. I come from a family of seven children and had a very hard-working father, who was self-educated and as smart as a whip; he taught us all good work ethics.

Q:  What is your go to Sunday cleaning/organizing song?

A:  I listen to everything and anything, but I love Gladys Knight and the Pips.
