Q: Can you introduce yourself and provide some background on your role within the company? What are your primary responsibilities and areas of expertise?
A: Having joined SAM in October 2025 as Benefits Administrator, I focused on enhancing the team member experience related to employee benefits and leaves of absence. Often my role sits at the intersection of our team members’ personal lives and their work lives. It’s very rewarding to support our people through their life’s journeys, balancing their work and life obligations.
Q: How did you come to be part of the team at SAM? What attracted you to this role and our company?
A: I shared openly with my network that my previous position as Human Resources Director ended in early 2025 following an ownership change. In the months after, I explored numerous roles in Human Resources and other fields. The process provided opportunities for reflection on my skills, abilities, and purpose. It felt like I had permission to consider doing something different with my skills than my career path had taken me that far. Otherwise, I might not have taken a look at SAM. I’m thankful I was open to it, though. I quickly connected with the people, the purpose, and the role. Any initial hesitation I had quickly turned to confidence that I could give something meaningful in return.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at SAM? Is there a specific aspect of your job or the company culture that you find particularly rewarding?
A: Right away, I noticed the care and concern of people throughout the company. Among the Human Resources team was support from the beginning. Across departments and locations, I saw cooperation. What I didn’t see were egos. Indeed, what stood out was leaders who are approachable and invested in the people around them.
Q: Is there a memorable life lesson or piece of advice that has shaped your outlook or approach to life and work?
A: Early in my career, I experienced a job elimination due to economic conditions. Having limited professional work experience at the time, I was at a disadvantage when it came time to select positions for reduction. I resolved then to bring value to every future role and position I hold. So now I quietly and consistently do my best work, serve others, and solve problems. There is no need to chase after praise or status, because others could depend on earned reputation.
Q: Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
A: I spend the largest portion of my free time volunteering in Scouting. I’m fortunate to help young people grow within my son’s Scouts BSA troop and my daughter’s Cub Scout pack. Beyond the individual units, I actively promote Scouting membership and support the development of adult volunteers throughout South Central Pennsylvania. During the winter, I will get out skiing with my family when I can. During the warmer months, I am out landscaping my yard with native plants and discovering how nature adapts to the available growing conditions.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself?
A: My kids and their friends are usually entertained by the cast of character voices and dad jokes that I produce whenever the occasion calls for it.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
A: The best job I have is being a husband and father. My family includes my wife, Abigail, three children, Lily, Andrew, and Julia, and one house rabbit named Oreo.
