Meet this month’s store team spotlight, LeeQuinn Lewis, store manager of Calverton Self Storage. Get to know LeeQuinn in the Q&A below!
Q: How long have you been working for SAM?
A: Four years
Q: How did you come to be part of the team at SAM? What attracted you to this role and our company?
A: I was with Calverton Storage for eight years before we transitioned to SAM’s management in July 2022. The owners wanted me to stay with the facility so that the tenants still had a familiar face around.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at SAM? Is there a specific aspect of your job or the company culture that you find particularly rewarding?
A: I like the fact that we all have an opportunity to move up in the company when opportunities arise. I love working with my tenants; 85% of them are older and they are like my grandpa and grandma. My teammates are awesome. I have a nickname for each one and we always look out for one another. I could not ask for a better group to work with in my district.
Q: Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing in your free time?
A: I love to cook. My dad is Jamaican, so all the dishes I cook are Caribbean dishes. I’m still learning how to cook American food!
Q: Is there a memorable life lesson or piece of advice that has shaped your outlook or approach to life and work?
A: When we got Scott Fay as our district manager he said to me, “We’re going to learn the SAM way together.” I knew storage, but not the SAM way. I had my guard up and didn’t have much patience. Scott taught me patience by his actions and the way he handled his district. I really appreciate him for that.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself?
A: I’m a sports junkie. Football is #1. I’m a Pittsburgh Steelers and Michigan Wolverines fan. I’m from Brooklyn, NY but do not like any team from NY. I’m also a Mickey Mouse lover; I collect anything with Mickey.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself ?
A: I have two kids. My son is 20 years old and my daughter is 12 years old. I’m a “Grammie” to a little girl who will be 2 years old this summer.
