Meet this month’s store team spotlight, Katie Sweigert, Marketing Creative Coordinator. Get to know Katie in the Q&A below!

Q:  Can you introduce yourself and provide some background on your role within the company? What are your primary responsibilities and areas of expertise?

A:  Hi! I’m Katie Sweigert, Marketing Creative Coordinator at SAM, where I’ve been part of the marketing team for five years. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Business from Liberty University. I create and coordinate design assets supporting more than 600 properties across 100+ brands, ranging from branding and signage to print materials, digital campaigns, advertising, and other creative and marketing initiatives.

One project I’m especially proud of is designing the refresh of the Storage Asset Management logo that represents SAM today. Helping shape the visual identity of a company I’ve grown alongside has been especially meaningful to me as a designer.

Q:  How did you become part of the SAM team? What attracted you to this role and our company?

A:  My career started in vehicle graphics and signage, where I designed everything from commercial vehicles and signage to fire apparatus, ambulances and police vehicles. I also physically installed vinyl graphics, giving me the unique experience of seeing projects through from initial design to finished product.

When I was ready for my next step, I wanted to broaden my experience and continue growing creatively. I was drawn to SAM’s culture, flexibility and variety of creative work, but what really stood out was the emphasis on its people and communities. Giving back has always been important to me, so finding a company that shared that commitment through charitable causes and community involvement really resonated with me. Five years later, that alignment is still one of the things I value most about SAM.

Q:  What do you enjoy most about working at SAM? Is there a specific aspect of your job or the company culture that you find particularly rewarding?

A:  I love solving problems creatively and creating things people are genuinely excited to use. Whether it’s a store team seeing new marketing materials, a client seeing their brand come together, or spotting one of my designs at a property, it’s rewarding to see something that started on my screen become tangible.

I also really value the people I work with. I’ve been fortunate to have an incredibly supportive manager, a phenomenal employee on our creative team, and coworkers who make collaborating genuinely enjoyable. SAM has given me opportunities to grow, take on new challenges, and make an impact while also supporting me as a person outside of work. Being trusted creatively and working for a company whose values align with my own is something I genuinely appreciate.

Q:  Has a memorable life lesson or advice shaped your outlook or approach to life and work?

A:  Growing up, my parents taught me to work hard and leave things better than I found them. That lesson has stuck with me in just about everything I do. Whether I’m working on a design, taking on a challenge, or helping someone else, I try to put my best effort into it and leave a positive impact behind.

Q:  Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy pursuing in your free time?

A:  The fire service is a huge part of my life. My dad was also a volunteer firefighter, and growing up, I looked up to his willingness to give his time and serve others when they needed help. His example inspired me to eventually pursue the fire service myself. I’ve now been a volunteer firefighter for eight years and recently earned my Firefighter II certification, something I’m incredibly proud of. I love the challenge, teamwork, and opportunity to serve my community.

My involvement goes beyond responding to calls. I also help my fire company with social media, recruitment, apparel, design, and other projects, so somehow my creative side always follows me to the firehouse! I’m grateful to work for a company that shares that commitment to community and has supported my involvement in the fire service over the years.

I also recently became a homeowner, so when I’m not working or at the firehouse, there’s a good chance I’m tackling a house project. I love working with my hands and finding creative ways to make my home my own.

Q:  Can you share a fun fact about yourself?

A:  I grew up in 4-H and used to raise and show goats! It’s a pretty different chapter from graphic design and firefighting, but it gave me some great memories and taught me responsibility and hard work from a young age.

Q:  Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?

A:  I’m incredibly grateful for the people I have in my corner. My family has always supported whatever I’ve decided to take on, and I’m lucky to have incredible friends who have cheered me on along the way. The fire service has also given me a second family and friendships that mean more to me than I could put into words.

I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the people who have encouraged me, challenged me, and supported all of the different adventures I seem to get myself into!
